0762 - Trabecular Bone Strain Changes Associated with Subchondral Bone Defects in the Tibial Plateau
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction: Subchondral bone defects in the proximal tibia are commonly encountered with tibial plateau fractures. Bone defects and grafting treatments affect knee mechanics but the effects are not well understood. Changes in subchondral strain affect cartilage stress which likely contributes to posttraumatic arthritis. Historically, investigators have had to use analytical models to study trabecular mechanics. Texture correlation allows direct measurement of trabecular strain . The purpose of our study was to use this technique to evaluate two hypotheses related to the effects of subchondral trabecular defects. First, subchondral defects will increase strains in proportion to defect size. Second, both morselized bone graft and PMMA will return strains to near normal levels.

Bone marrow lesions from osteoarthritis knees are characterized by sclerotic bone that is less well mineralized
INTRODUCTION Although the presence of bone marrow lesions (BMLs) on magnetic resonance images is strongly associated with osteoarthritis progression and pain, the underlying pathology is not well established. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the architecture of subchondral bone in regions with and without BMLs from the same individual using bone histomorphometry. METHODS Postmenop...
متن کاملMeniscal extrusion predicts increases in subchondral bone marrow lesions and bone cysts and expansion of subchondral bone in osteoarthritic knees.
OBJECTIVES Meniscal extrusion is often present in knees with OA, and has been associated with cartilage changes. It is unknown whether meniscal extrusion is related to subchondral bone. The aim of the study was to examine the relationship between meniscal extrusion and knee cartilage and subchondral bone, and also changes in these structures over 2 years in a cohort with mild to moderate knee O...

OBJECTIVE To investigate and validate digital X-ray microradiography as a novel, high-throughput and cost-effective screening approach to identify abnormal joint phenotypes in mice. METHOD Digital X-ray microradiography was used to quantify the subchondral bone mineral content (BMC) in the medial tibial plateau. Accuracy and reproducibility of the method were determined in 22 samples from C57...
متن کاملEffect of rhBMP-2 on tibial plateau fractures in a canine model.
This study was to determine the efficacy of recombinant human bone morphogenetic protien-2 (rhBMP-2)/calcium phosphate matrix (CPX) paste to accelerate healing in a canine articular fracture model with associated subchondral defect. rhBMP-2/CPX (BMP), CPX alone (CPX) or autogenous bone graft (ABG) was administered to a canine articular tibial plateau osteotomy with a subchondral defect in each ...
متن کاملRabbit model of subchondral bone bruise and the treatment potential of calcitonin.
BACKGROUND This study characterized a novel rabbit model of subchondral bone bruise and investigated the intervening effect of calcitonin. METHODS Bone bruise was implemented via controlled free-fall counterpoise on the medial tibial subchondral bone of 5-month-old New Zealand rabbits, with 3, 2.5, or 2 Joules of energy. Subsequent subchondral bone bruise was characterized via magnetic resona...
